The issue
"Japa," a Nigerian colloquial term derived from the Yoruba word meaning "to flee" or "to escape," describes the large-scale emigration of skilled professionals, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare workers, in pursuit of better compensation, working conditions, and career opportunities abroad. This migration of healthcare professionals is a major national challenge. The goal should not be to blame workers for leaving, but to create conditions that make staying professionally viable and personally dignified.
