Multidisciplinary Team-Based Care as the Standard of Practice
Team-based care as the minimum standard in secondary and tertiary facilities, with defined roles and shared accountability.
The issue
Clinical excellence cannot be achieved by any single cadre. The framework should recommend that the Federal Ministry of Health mandate multidisciplinary team-based care as the minimum standard in all secondary and tertiary facilities. Ward rounds and outpatient clinics should include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists, dietitians, and social welfare officers with defined roles and shared accountability for outcomes.
